Family Update #1

Updated: Sep 25, 2023

Good Afternoon Perry K - 6 Families,

We hope you are doing well! We have had an outstanding first week of school. It has been awesome to have our students back – smiling, working hard and working together.

Next Thursday, we will send out our first Perry Family Newsletter, which will thereafter arrive biweekly on Thursdays. In the meantime, we wanted to provide a few quick updates as we reach the end of our first full week of school:

  • We conducted our first Fire Drill this morning, and things went well! For some of our youngest students, it was their first Fire Drill, but they did a great job! We will have at least three more during the course of the year.

  • MAP Testing begins next week in K2 through Grade 6. This MAP Testing helps us to gain baseline data of where each student is as they start the school year. It is not “high stakes” in any way and usually takes each student just about 30 minutes to complete. K2 - Grade 3 students take the MAP Fluency test to measure progress in reading skills. Students in Grades 3 to 6 take both the Reading (more so comprehension-based) and Math MAP assessment.

  • Doc Wayne will be starting their recess coaching program soon. They will be engaging in play with our students, introducing new games with them, and assisting in the facilitation of fun while on the Recess yard! We have a consent form below and ask that you fill it out at your earliest convenience. Please reach out to Meghan Mayville at mmayville@docwayne.org if you have any questions about the form.

  • !!! Thank you to all who completed their Emergency form! If you have not yet already done so, please take a moment to complete the Student Emergency Form for each of your students: 2023 - 24 Emergency Form

  • Please refrain from entering the Perry Parking Lot during Arrival and Dismissal. There are almost always plenty of spots along East 7th Street. This creates a dangerous situation with cars backing out of the lot while students and families are walking through. Thank you for your cooperation!

  • Please take a moment to read the Welcome Back letter from Kerri & Brendan McGrath of Colin’s Joy Project, a South Boston-based non-profit focused on improving opportunities for children and families in the area: Colin's Joy Project.

  • Friends of the Perry is still looking for several classroom reps! Please click this link for more information and to sign up!

Thank you very much for your continued support of our Perry students – have a wonderful weekend!
